There are few accurate statistics regarding sexual exploitation and sexual abuse of children as these crimes are often covert, secret and associated with intense feelings of shame that prevent children and adults from seeking help and reporting them.

It is estimated that there are approximately 27 million slaves around the world.

In 2000, it was estimated that 1.8 million children were being sexually exploited in prostitution and pornography.

Around 1 million children are thought to enter prostitution every year.

Women who have been trafficked for the purpose of sexual exploitation experience a significantly higher rate of HIV and other STDs, tuberculosis, and permanent damage to their reproductive systems.

Although the majority of the child victims of sexual exploitation and abuse are girls, both girls and boys, of all ages and backgrounds, everywhere in the world, fall victim to sexual exploitation and sexual abuse.

Human Trafficking is the modern day slave trade.

Human Trafficking affects men, women, boys and girls regardless of race, age, religion, background or socio-economic class.

For every 1,000 people in the world there are two victims of human trafficking.

The average purchase price when someone is sold into slavery is $90.

Women who have been trafficked for the purpose of sexual exploitation experience a significantly higher rate of HIV and other STDs, tuberculosis, and permanent damage to their reproductive systems.

An estimated 100,000 to 300,000 adolescents are commercially sexually exploited annually in the U.S.

Someone does NOT have to be physically transported from one location to another in order to be considered a victim of human trafficking.

There have been cases of human trafficking reported in all fifty states.

In the United States there are fewer than 100 beds in shelters that exist specifically for the care of survivors of human trafficking.
